Mobile Money Photo of the Week

Photo of the Week

This photo was taken during a break at the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) Global Policy Forum in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was from a colleague who was a regulator from the Central Bank of Uganda who shared with me his regular mobile money use cases and why he found it so useful and relevant. He explained that he started using mobile money to send money to his parents who live in the countryside and shared that it was the best way way to remit money in Uganda. On top of that, he found it very useful to pay for prepaid electricity and water as well as his son’s school fees. It was interesting to note from several colleagues in East Africa – especially Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda – just how common the use of mobile money really is today.
